LED THERAPY
LED Light Therapy is a painless, relaxing skin-care treatment that plumps up aging skin by boosting collagen production, treats mild to moderate acne, sundamage and reduces redness, and acne rosacea.
LED stands for light-emitting-diodes. First developed by NASA, LED works by sending energy-producing packets of light into the deeper layers of the skin.
How does LED therapy work?
Our skin has the ability to absorb light and use it as a source of energy to stimulate a healing response.LED therapy uses specific colour wavelengths of light that penetrate the skin at varying depths. The light works to energies cells in the skin to produce collagen, improve elasticity and increase blood circulation and oxygen flow while releasing toxins. This stimulates the anti-ageing process, helps to normalize cellular imbalance and improves skin tone and clarity. It is a natural reaction, similar to that of plant photo-synthesis which triggers the body to convert light energy to cell energy.
Is LED therapy safe?
Not only is LED effective, but also very safe, it also has the added benefit of being painless and relaxing, with no recovery time required. LED can also be done on all skin types, regardless of ethnicity. It remains cool and comfortable for the client because it uses spectral light instead of heat to activate the skin’s own biochemical healing processes.
Results of LED therapy
The number of treatments you will need can vary with skin type and condition. One session is an ideal ‘pick me up’ for the skin. A course of treatment is recommended for long term results, particularly when treating skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis etc.
Benefits of LED therapy
LED light therapy helps treat a variety of skin concerns and conditions, including:
-
Eczema, psoriasis
-
Hair loss/ hair thinning
-
Mild to moderate acne
-
Rough, scaly, precancerous spots on the skin (actinic keratosis).
-
Rosacea
-
Sun damage
-
Hyperpigmentation
-
Wounds and pain
-
Fine lines and wrinkles

RED Light is used for treating the epidermis and has been shown to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin and so helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Red LED light is also thought to improve blood circulation and help with the penetration of active ingredients.

BLUE LED light reduces activity in the sebaceous glands and targets the bacteria responsible for acne. It can also calm sensitive, problematic skin.

GREEN light has a calming effect and can help lighten age spots, sun damage and hyperpigmentation for a brighter, more even complexion.

YELLOW light is used to relieve rosacea, flushed skin and redness. It can also help reduce melanin production.

SCALP DIODE is used to treat hair loss. It improves blood circulation and helps stimulate the hair follicles.

IR (barely visible near infrared light) penetrates even deeper than red light and triggers wound healing, decreases inflammation, and can help with pain relief and muscle relaxation.

At home LED devices vs in clinic devices
The main difference between at-home and in-clinic LED therapy is that the at-home devices aren’t as strong as the in-clinic devices. In-clinic therapies use more powerful strengths, making them more effective. While continuous use of the at home devices over time will absolutely deliver improvements, the best course of action is to get a mix of in-clinic treatments while also using your at-home mask regularly.
With LED therapy in clinics, make sure they are using a medical grade device as cheap devices that some clinics use are very similar to the at home LED devices.
Can I combine other treatments with LED therapy?
Yes, we recommend you combine LED light therapy with other treatments for best results. This treatment can be combined with dermaplaning, chemical peels, microneedling and any injectable treatments.
LED after injectable treatments with its anti-inflammatory properties help mitigate swelling and bruising, while the stimulation of collagen production aids in maintaining and enhancing the effects of dermal fillers.
